In November this year, Grade 6 learners will sit their Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) Exams under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). After completing these exams, learners will qualify to join Junior Secondary. Being the first lot under the new curriculum, many parents, teachers and learners alike, are still not sure of the next step or rather place where these young graduates will be hosted until when they will be ready to join Senior Secondary in Grade 10.

George Magoha ,the Education Cabinet Secretary (CS), has come out to offer guidance on the next steps. Speaking to the media at the Moi Educational Center, he put to rest fears raised by parents on whether private schools were ready to host the Grade 6 graduates for their Junior Secondary.

Magoha explained that there was no need for parents of these new graduates to move them to different schools and institutions. Besides saving parents time, it will alleviate the pressure of competition synonymous with that experienced after the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (K.C.P.E), at least until Grade 10.

Regarding the success of this transition, the Cabinet Secretary noted that teachers are currently well equipped and trained to take care of the Grade 6 graduates. He further stated that the government was working round the clock to ensure the construction new classrooms to make the situation even better.
