About University

Mount Kenya University

Mount Kenya University Main campus is located in Thika, with other campuses in Nairobi, Parklands, Mombasa, Nakuru, Eldoret, Nkubu, Meru, Kakamega and Kisii. The journey towards the establishment of the university dates back to 1996 with the formation of the Thika Institute of Technology as a community computer outreach program.

The institute developed into a commercial college offering management and computer training programmes. Thika Institute of Technology was given greenlight to collaborate with the Jomo Kenyatta University of Technology (JKUAT) to offer both diploma and degree programmes in 2006 by the Commission for University Education Kenya. Mount Kenya University was given the authority to establish a full-fledged privately funded university with the Thika Institute of Technology as its forerunner. The university was awarded with a charter by the Kenyan government in 2011.
